The Greenfeet Gospel

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I wanted to share a document all Greenfeet staff have at their fingertips.  It’s called our Greenfeet Gospel and it’s what we live by.

Our company was founded with the intent to promote positive change leading to a healthy, responsible lifestyle.

We believe learning anything, whether it’s world history or how to pack a waste free lunch, should be fun. And, if you want to fire spit balls in the air while you’re learning, by all means go for it. We’ve got some great techniques we’d be happy to share.

Here at Greenfeet we live & breathe by our core values:

  • Simplify:
    • Living a responsible, sustainable life should not be complicated – or expensive.  It’s about setting priorities & making smart choices with the resources available at any given time. Life is a journey. Enjoy it.
  • Engage:
    • Talk.  To our customers, vendors, & to each other.  We’re all human beings and communication is vital to any quality relationship. Be sure to ask questions, invite suggestions & ideas, and welcome constructive criticism. And for goodness sake, share what we’ve learned with others and figure out how to enjoy a few belly laughs while doing it.
  • Entertain:
    • Both our customers & each other.  Have fun and don’t be afraid to include others.  We bring fun (& bad jokes) back to business.
  • Educate:
    • Share, learn, & explore ways to simplify.  Interact with our customers, vendors and community members. Welcome their knowledge & experience. Challenge ourselves to clearly demonstrate to our customers the joy of living responsibly. Teach by example.
  • Deliver:
    • Meet & exceed expectations of our customers & of each other.  In the words of the great teacher Yoda – “Do, or do not.  There is no try”.
  • Ethics:
    • Conduct business in a way that follows the Triple Bottom Line – People, Planet, Profit.  They are intertwined.  One is not mutually exclusive of the other. Remember that the right choice is not always the easiest. Push ourselves to do better by being better.
  • Positive Attitude:
    • Be positive in everything we do.  Positivity breeds action and forward movement.  We do not subscribe to fear, guilt, or negativity.
  • Be-Yo Self:
    • Need we say more?

Sustainability, Beer & Film, Oh My.

Whew…what a crazy week last week was! So crazy it took me a week to write about it!

It started off last Sunday with the first ChicoFest held at Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada Pedal Bar

Sierra Nevada Pedal Bar

Brewery. The event was held to celebrate the dedication of Sierra Nevada’s AMAZING solar array. I say amazing because get this – they have a whopping 7800 solar panels on their roof. Yep. Seventy Eight HUNDRED. I know, cuz I saw them all!

ChicoFest also celebrated Chico State University’s annual Ecofest where all things sustainable were in full display. Chico has a lot going on here – Chico Bag, Klean Kanteen, Springboard Biodiesel, Alternative Energy Systems, Electric Cars, Knudsen Beverages, Lundberg Rice Farms, Greenfeet,  just to name a few of the companies that are based here. The music was fabulous. If you ever get a chance to see MarchNorth Marching Band - grab it! They were a great show, both visually and musically. And the BEER!!! Well, that requires a separate paragraph all of its own.

Welcome to blog.greenfeet.com. My name is Valerie Reddemann and I’m the Founder and Chief Yoo-Hoo at Greenfeet.com. Over the last 13 years our Ambassadors of Customer Happiness have fielded thousands of emails, written dozens of articles and have spent countless hours on the phone answering questions about green living – now we’ll add blogging to the list.  My goal is to make green living fresh and fun.

So you understand where I’m coming from, here’s a bit about me.

Nice to meet you!

I hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing from California State University, Sacramento. I became green due to my intense curiosity and passion for results. I started Greenfeet in 1997 because I wanted to help people experience the same joy I had from living a bit more simply and responsibly. I learned pretty quick standing on a soap box screaming your message isn’t very effective (and its exhausting) so I ‘surrendered’ and found myself falling back on the basics of my personality – humor. It’s gotten me through a lot of challenges in life and I’m a believer.

I’ve been married for 17 years to my husband, Rob and we’re parents to an amazing 12 year old son. I say amazing, because one day he’ll make me laugh so hard I pee (just a little) and other days I find myself banging my head against the wall. Amazing.

I like cheese and adore micro-brews. I’ve named every animal that parades in front of our office on a daily basis (Louie the lizard, rat-bert, cat-bert and now Sandy the squirrel). I like to have  fun.

I’m also incredibly passionate about living responsibly on this planet. I don’t believe  it should cost and arm and a leg, your child’s college fund, or your sanity to do it.  Roll all that together and it pretty much sums up what Greenfeet is all about. Living green while having fun.

We’re looking forward to getting to know you better. Email blog@greenfeet.com with your questions and we welcome  (and encourage) you to comment on posts. Our goal is to create a healthy dialogue based on curiosity, knowledge, informed opinion and constructive criticism. We don’t know everything and don’t claim to – this is where you come in. (more…)
