Sustainability, Beer & Film, Oh My.

Whew…what a crazy week last week was! So crazy it took me a week to write about it!

It started off last Sunday with the first ChicoFest held at Sierra Nevada

Brewery. The event was held to celebrate the dedication of Sierra Nevada’s AMAZING solar array. I say amazing because get this – they have a whopping 7800 solar panels on their roof. Yep. Seventy Eight HUNDRED. I know, cuz I saw them all!

ChicoFest also celebrated Chico State University’s annual Ecofest where all things sustainable were in full display. Chico has a lot going on here – Chico Bag, Klean Kanteen, Springboard Biodiesel, Alternative Energy Systems, Electric Cars, Knudsen Beverages, Lundberg Rice Farms, Greenfeet,  just to name a few of the companies that are based here. The music was fabulous. If you ever get a chance to see MarchNorth Marching Band - grab it! They were a great show, both visually and musically. And the BEER!!! Well, that requires a separate paragraph all of its own.

Volunteering – Good for the Soul

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Listening to Dori and Val talk about volunteering on this weeks More Hip than Hippie Podcast, I was thinking about how good it feels to volunteer. I don’t do it tons, but I know that every time I do it I walk away feeling really good about it. I feel like I’ve gotten more out of it than the people I’ve helped.

The best volunteering experience I’ve had so far, is when I volunteered with my family. My husband, twin boys and I went over to our church and helped do some landscaping. We planted trees, pulled weeds, seeded grass, and put in some cement blocks to mark off a drain pipe so the grass wouldn’t grow up around it. Everything still looks beautiful, and I know our help was needed and appreciated, but the best part for me was spending time with my family while having our hearts and minds fixed on helping others. It is a great feeling.

Even now, almost a year later, when we’re at church you could very well hear one of my boys pointing out the trees they planted or the blocks they placed oh so carefully.  They feel good about what they’ve done, they’ve helped others, and we were able to build a family memory that will last a lifetime.

If  you’re looking for a way to reach out and doing some volunteering, I would strongly suggest visiting Volunteermatch.org. I’m always amazed at the variety and number of opportunities there are to serve.

April Fools Day at Greenfeet. Fake, Fabulous & Funny Green Products

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

It’s no secret the team at Greenfeet LOVES to laugh.

April Fools' Day at Greenfeet

April Fools' Day at Greenfeet

It’s not uncommon to hear rips, snorts and sheer sarcasm streaming down the hallways throughout the day. I’ve been guilty a time or two of playing with the loudspeaker and as luck would have it, the loudspeaker ‘mysteriously’ no longer works. Hrrmph.

With humor in mind, we decided to have a bit of fun this April Fools’ Day with our collection of 8 fake & funny “green” products everyone should have.  Check them out here.

I have to say that I love the energy that runs throughout our office. These are people who put their heart and soul into their work but at the same time, know how to let their hair down to have a good time. We certainly had a lot of laughs putting this group of fine products together and we hope you enjoy learning about them as much as we had fun creating them.

I’d really love to hear your feedback. Which one’s your favorite? Leave us a comment!  Feel free to share the page with anyone you know who would enjoy a good chuckle.
