Whew…what a crazy week last week was! So crazy it took me a week to write about it!
It started off last Sunday with the first ChicoFest held at Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada Pedal Bar
Brewery. The event was held to celebrate the dedication of Sierra Nevada’s AMAZING solar array. I say amazing because get this – they have a whopping 7800 solar panels on their roof. Yep. Seventy Eight HUNDRED. I know, cuz I saw them all!
ChicoFest also celebrated Chico State University’s annual Ecofest where all things sustainable were in full display. Chico has a lot going on here – Chico Bag, Klean Kanteen, Springboard Biodiesel, Alternative Energy Systems, Electric Cars, Knudsen Beverages, Lundberg Rice Farms, Greenfeet, just to name a few of the companies that are based here. The music was fabulous. If you ever get a chance to see MarchNorth Marching Band - grab it! They were a great show, both visually and musically. And the BEER!!! Well, that requires a separate paragraph all of its own.
Here’s the big announcement: Sierra Nevada has a NEW BEER! Yep, they just released their new Kellerweis Hefeweizen this past Tuesday. I KNOW!!!! It’s light, crisp and has a citrus twist (with flavors of banana). Perfect for the warm weather that’s beginning to set in. Get some. I’ll say it again – I love beer. Really, really good beer. I am a self professed beer snob and proud of it. Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada, knows his beer. He also created a special brew for ChicoFest – the ChicoFest Ale. Fresh, clean and bright in flavor, this is one I really wish he’d consider bottling. It was damn good.
So now on to the film. As you know, I’m the co-host of the nearly 4 year old eco-funny podcast More Hip Than Hippie. Well, you may not know but now you’re informed. So, download a few episodes and let me know what you think. Ok, back to my point…..
We’re proud to have quite a few long-time, dedicated listeners. One of them is Colin McCullough and his young son, Carrick. Together they have created some pretty cool environmental videos. 9 year old Carrick even recently appeared on the Bonnie Hunt Television Show and won a presidential award for his work. Well, this Monday they are embarking, mom and brother in tow, on a 2 month, cross country eco-video road trip with the mission of creating a documentary geared toward the youth of America. Their trip will entail “visiting large-scale sites like wind and solar farms, as well as new companies with potentially game-changing technologies that will be key to a sustainable future. We will also be interviewing people whose ideas and actions have inspired many to live more sustainably.” Guess what? That includes Me! I invite you to visit their website, check out their website and if you can find a way, donate to their project.
I’m very excited to meet and hang with Carrick and his family. They’ll be here for a few days so I’ll be sure to take some photos and post them.
Oh, and the picture of the bike? That’s my dream bike. It’s Sierra Nevada’s pedal powered portable bar. Notice the dual tap. That’s my idea of alternative transportation!

Im in the process of switching over to solar energy, know any good resources ?
Yes, I do! Where are you located? I’ll be happy to send you a list of sources!
