My Love Affair With My Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

It’s really more of an obsession. I’m like that with certain products which you’ll see if you follow this blog.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m the Chief Yoo-Hoo here at Greenfeet.com and consider myself a moderate to dark shade greenie. I say medium to dark because there are some issues I’m definitely really into – such as reducing my waste. Other things, like not shaving my legs or going vegan – well, not so much. I admire the heck out of people who do these things but I’m just too vain for hairy legs (I mean I’m a brunette and would look like a 6′ gorilla wearing makeup. See where I’m going with this?)  and well, I like chicken. And beef. And bacon. Enough said.

My obsession - the Klean Kanteen Insulated Travel Mug

Today, I want to introduce you to the Klean Kanteen Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle. Now, it’s been out for over a year and I’ve been pretty much obsessed with mine ever since. Since I’m on the go a lot, this mug is key to my goal of reducing my waste stream.

As you can imagine, we’re sent samples of just about every bottle on the market, and quite honestly, very very few ever make the cut with us. Why? Well, we’re sticklers for quality, testing, and performance. Our completely unscientific, but real world, testing found the Klean Kanteen keeps beverages cold for over 24 hours (keeping the lid sealed, of course) and hot beverages plenty hot for over 6 hours. I adore the wide mouth and how easy it is to fill and clean. The smaller sizes are great for packing soup to work or school and the stainless interior means you can use a metal spoon without scratching up the inside.  To be truthful, my main obsession is for coffee. I’m a coffee-o-holic and if I don’t get my piping hot two mugs of coffee a day, well, I can’t guarantee what will happen. Just ask my husband.

That said, I pretty much only use the Cafe Cap for my insulated Klean Kanteen. I have all sizes and all caps – I switch them out depending on activity and use. The Cafe Cap is used daily. It’s super easy to use (I can open/close with one hand so it’s great for driving) and the thing takes less than 2 seconds to pop apart for thorough cleaning. I’m super lazy and all about fast and easy (Notice a re-occurring them with me?) so if it’s difficult, fah-get about it!  I wanted to show people how dang easy the Cafe Cap is to clean so I talked Amy into doing a short video on it:

See! Told ya!

Now, here’s a tip that you may or may not find helpful. I love using fragrant dish soap. It makes such a distasteful chore somehow more tolerable. Anyhoo, I’ve found that if I wash my lid just before using that for a few minutes my coffee smells like lavender, or basil or whatever fresh picked doo-hickey I like at the moment. The point is, that makes me grumpy. So, to avoid grumpiness, I wash my mug and lid as soon as I get home in the evening. That way, it’s ready to go in the morning and smells only like my main obsession – my fair trade coffee.  Got questions? Comments? Want to share your obsession with your Klean Kanteen Insulated mug? The Greenfeet Gospel

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I wanted to share a document all Greenfeet staff have at their fingertips.  It’s called our Greenfeet Gospel and it’s what we live by.

Our company was founded with the intent to promote positive change leading to a healthy, responsible lifestyle.

We believe learning anything, whether it’s world history or how to pack a waste free lunch, should be fun. And, if you want to fire spit balls in the air while you’re learning, by all means go for it. We’ve got some great techniques we’d be happy to share.

Here at Greenfeet we live & breathe by our core values:

  • Simplify:
    • Living a responsible, sustainable life should not be complicated – or expensive.  It’s about setting priorities & making smart choices with the resources available at any given time. Life is a journey. Enjoy it.
  • Engage:
    • Talk.  To our customers, vendors, & to each other.  We’re all human beings and communication is vital to any quality relationship. Be sure to ask questions, invite suggestions & ideas, and welcome constructive criticism. And for goodness sake, share what we’ve learned with others and figure out how to enjoy a few belly laughs while doing it.
  • Entertain:
    • Both our customers & each other.  Have fun and don’t be afraid to include others.  We bring fun (& bad jokes) back to business.
  • Educate:
    • Share, learn, & explore ways to simplify.  Interact with our customers, vendors and community members. Welcome their knowledge & experience. Challenge ourselves to clearly demonstrate to our customers the joy of living responsibly. Teach by example.
  • Deliver:
    • Meet & exceed expectations of our customers & of each other.  In the words of the great teacher Yoda – “Do, or do not.  There is no try”.
  • Ethics:
    • Conduct business in a way that follows the Triple Bottom Line – People, Planet, Profit.  They are intertwined.  One is not mutually exclusive of the other. Remember that the right choice is not always the easiest. Push ourselves to do better by being better.
  • Positive Attitude:
    • Be positive in everything we do.  Positivity breeds action and forward movement.  We do not subscribe to fear, guilt, or negativity.
  • Be-Yo Self:
    • Need we say more?

New Bling For Your Reusable Water Bottle. Exclusively at Greenfeet

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I’m a huge proponent of Klean Kanteen reusable water bottles – they save hundreds of millions of plastic water bottles from the landfill and they’re much cheaper to fill than buying bottled water (use your tap!). BUT, lots and lots of people now have Klean Kanteens. How do you tell yours apart from everyone elses’?

Juglets at Greenfeet

Juglets at Greenfeet

Introducing “Juglets“!  Consider them bling for your water bottle – and, they’re only available at Greenfeet.com!  We ‘ve hired a local craftswoman to design and manufacturer our juglets for us. Each is handmade from materials such as recycled glass, lead free pewter charms,  and sustainably harvested bone and horn (from animals that perished naturally). They are designed to fit snugly around the neck of your Klean Kanteen, won’t hit you in the face when you drink, and attach with secure magnets for easy on/off.  We chose to use wire instead of flimsy plastic and they are built to last.

We created designs and colors that appeal to both men and women. Hey, even guys need a little bling in their life!  So, check ‘em out, pick up a couple and let me know what you think. We’ve priced them at $9.95 and they’re in stock now!
